Volunteer Jobs

Thanks in advance for your time and commitment to swim team! Swim season is short but intense, it takes tons of volunteers to run the meets..

To ensure we have enough volunteers each family is required to supply a volunteer for meets.

One responsible adult family member must volunteer at

EVERY HOME MEET in which their swimmer is swimming

AND ALSO volunteer for AT LEAST 2 AWAY MEETS.

If you know you will not be available please contact the Team Managers ASAP so we can arrange alternate volunteer possibilities. For home meets, we have a few jobs that can be done either before or after the meet. • For families with unavoidable time conflicts that are not available to volunteer during the meet there are a few volunteer positions for other times. Please reach out to us ASAP if you need to volunteer at an alternate time. All volunteering must go through the sign up online.  If you have questions or concerns please contact a Team Manager at [email protected].

DESCRIPTIONS OF VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

  • Stroke & Turn Judges - This requires training. Do not sign up for this unless you have completed the training. Responsible for watching the execution of the the swimmer’s strokes and turns. We must supply 4 judges for every meet. League training is provided, GCSL also recognizes those trained through USA swim and the YMCA. Training is good for 3 years.
  • Set-up - Prepare our facilities for the swim meet. This is a very physical job. Lifting and moving deck furniture, setting up canopy tents, putting up signage, taping the deck, preparing the guest team area. This must happen in the 2 1/2 hours prior to the meet. Do not sign up for this job if you are unable to do heavy lifting and carrying in hot afternoon sun. The set up crew will start sometime around 3:00pm on Home meet days.
  • Clean-up - Put our facilities for back and ready for members the following day. This is a very physical job. Lifting and moving deck furniture, taking down canopy tents, climbing stairs with full hands. This job starts towards the end of the meet and continues until completed after the meet. Do not sign up for this job if you are unable to do heavy lifting and carrying or if you can’t stay about an hour after the meet is over.
  • Concessions - Set up, sell and clean up concessions depending on shift time. Three shift times available. Some positions will manage money/make change.  Some will be food prep/wrapping.  These are assigned upon arrival.
  • Timer/Writer - Times swimmers for each event and records the time. This year, timer and writer will be the same job.  Accuracy is important.  Legible handwriting is required.
  • Staging - Line up swimmers prior to the events so they are in order and ready for their event. These volunteers also mark the heat sheets for staging & shark tank indicating any last minute changes. This is good for someone who doesn't mind telling other people's children what to do (ie. TEACHERS).
  • Bullhorn & Staging Runner - These are great jobs for someone who has younger swimmers and doesn’t mind being in the midst of everyone else’s children. This job is a mix of watching the swimmers, making sure they are staying safe and finding swimmers who are not showing up when their events are called. You are gathering the swimmers, making sure they are all there and feeding them into the staging area.
  • Ribbons - This job starts halfway through the meet and often goes well after the meet finishes. You will be putting the swimmer time stickers on the ribbons and filing the ribbons. One of the few seated volunteer jobs.
  • Computer Entry/ Verifier - For home meets responsible for entering event times into the computer. At away meets responsible for verifying times. Attention to detail is very important. One of the few seated volunteer jobs.
  • Runner - Pick up completed time sheets from timers and deliver to scoring table.
